What Are the Differences Between Organic Food and Wild Crafted Foods

By: Goji Team

As more consumers are becoming aware of the harm that is done to the environment by a lot of food producing practices and becoming increasingly concerned with the health implications involved with many of these methods, people are seeking healthier, more environmentally friendly means of food production. However, with all of the different terminology out there it may get a bit confusing. If you have seen the labels for “organic” foods and “wild crafted” foods, you may be wondering what exactly the difference is. Here is a brief explanation of what distinguishes organically grown foods from wild crafted food.

Organic foods are generally those that are produced by farming methods which adhere to certain standards set forth by the National Organics Program which is ran by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA standards insure that the food produced under the organic label are produced free of pesticides, fertilizers that involve human waste or sewage sludge or artificial fertilizers. Also, organic crops can not use food additives and must be produced without ionizing radiation. Where meat production is consumed, the meat produced from farm animals can only be considered organic if the livestock is free of any growth hormones and were not exposed to a regular, unnecessary use of antibiotics. Additionally, any food that has been genetically engineered or altered in anyway can not be considered organic. So basically, think of organic food as coming from a traditional farm that simply does not add anything “artificial” to the production of the food and merely farms by traditional methods letting nature take its course.

Wild crafted crops,on other hand, harvests crops from their own natural habitats. The plants grown for wild crafted foods are uncultivated by human hands and, when done in a manner that concentrates on sustainability, utilizes only the branches or leave/flowers of the plan, leaving the roots and core of the plant in tact to keep replenishing itself so that after harvesting, there is still a living plant present. A few great examples of Wild Crafted food would be ground cherries, walnut trees, wild pear trees, and goji berries. The environmental impact and sustainability of wild crafted foods is often a great deal more positive that farming production.

To summarize in a simple method, organic food is produced by natural farming methods that cultivate the crops, where as Wild Crafted food is harvested from the wild and is uncultivated which means no human interference in the growth process.
